Zipp 303 XPLR S: build the gravel setup around the tire
The Zipp 303 XPLR S is a 700c carbon gravel wheelset built around a 54 mm-deep rim with a 32 mm internal width. This is the WH-303-XPS-B1 generation. Consider it when your shopping list is centered on dedicated gravel wheels and suitable wide tires, not a narrow road setup with occasional unpaved detours.
What you are buying: A complete front-and-rear wheelset. Select the rear freehub: Shimano / SRAM HG Road or SRAM XDR. Manufacturer model: WH-303-XPS-B1.
Fitment first: Only use tires and sizes approved for the 303 XPLR platform. Zipp support recommends 40-60 mm; approval and measured frame clearance are still required. The wheel pressure ceiling is 50 psi / 3.45 bar, with lower applicable tire limits taking precedence.
Hookless setup: 3.45 bar / 50 psi wheel ceiling. A lower tire- or size-specific limit may apply; a maximum is not a riding recommendation. Check current Zipp tire compatibility.
Think beyond the smooth part of the course
The road turns to gravel, the group stretches across an exposed straight, and the next corner asks for a different line. This is where a gravel-specific wheel starts to make sense. The 303 XPLR S puts its wide rim at the center of the build, inviting you to think about tire support, surface changes and the long route ahead as parts of the same ride.
Zipp's Total System Efficiency approach looks beyond air resistance to rolling and vibration losses. On the XPLR platform, the wide rim is designed around approved gravel tires and lower-pressure setups that support traction and absorb rough-surface vibration. The S pairs that gravel-specific concept with 76/176 hubs. The result is a distinct alternative to starting with a road wheel and simply fitting a larger tire.

Who should put this wheelset on the shortlist?
Choose the S when access to the wide XPLR concept is more important to you than moving to the SW hub specification. Skip it for a bike whose clearance only suits a conventional narrow road tire. Before placing an order, have a complete answer for tire approval, inflated width, clearance and cassette fit.

Zipp 303 XPLR S vs SW: the same decision starts with fit
Both use the 54 mm-deep, 32 mm-internal XPLR rim format. The S uses 76/176 hubs; the SW uses ZR1 DB hubs. The SW product page also provides a stated weight for its lightest configuration. Compare the actual supplied builds before calculating a weight difference: this S B1 page does not supply a matching figure.
Compare with Zipp 303 XPLR SW or Zipp 303 SW.
Questions to answer before ordering
Will a tire labeled 45 mm fit my gravel frame?
Not necessarily. Zipp warns that tires can measure wider on the XPLR rim. Measure the installed tire and retain the frame and fork maker's required clearance; the sidewall number is not a guaranteed installed width.
Can I run 30 or 32 mm road tires on the XPLR S?
Do not treat this as a narrow-road-tire wheelset. Use the XPLR-specific compatibility guidance and approved sizes. The 303 SW is the more relevant comparison when your plan starts with road-width tires.
Does the S use the same hub as the SW?
No. This B1 S listing specifies 76/176 hubs. The SW listing specifies ZR1 DB. Naming both models accurately is important when comparing prices and component details.
Is 50 psi the pressure I should ride?
No. It is a wheel limit, not a setup recommendation. Your appropriate pressure depends on the tire, load and riding conditions, and may be substantially lower. Follow the applicable tire and wheel guidance.
