Zipp 303 XPLR SW: a wider view of gravel-race performance

The Zipp 303 XPLR SW is a 700c carbon gravel wheelset pairing a 54 mm rim depth, 32 mm internal width and ZR1 DB hubs. It is the premium XPLR option in this Brimstone selection for riders considering a gravel-race build around approved wide tires, rather than adapting a road wheel to every surface.

What you are buying: A complete front-and-rear wheelset. Select the rear freehub: Shimano / SRAM HG Road or SRAM XDR. Manufacturer model: WH-303-XPSW-A1.

Fitment first: Approved 303 XPLR tires only. Current support guidance recommends 40-60 mm, but tire model approval and installed clearance are separate checks. Never exceed the lower applicable wheel or tire pressure limit; the wheel ceiling is 50 psi / 3.45 bar.

Hookless setup: 3.45 bar / 50 psi wheel ceiling. A lower tire- or size-specific limit may apply; a maximum is not a riding recommendation. Check current Zipp tire compatibility.

For the long course, not just the fast straight

A gravel race is rarely decided by one kind of terrain. Open straights reward an aero-minded setup; loose corners, rough tracks and long climbs ask different questions. The 303 XPLR SW approaches that changing course as a complete wheel-and-tire problem. It is a compelling direction for the rider building a dedicated gravel-race bike rather than asking a road wheelset to cover every role.

The 32 mm internal rim is designed to work with approved gravel tires, increasing air volume and supporting lower-pressure setups. Zipp's aim is to reduce the energy lost to rough-surface vibration while retaining tire support and grip. The deep, wide profile also addresses the transition between tire and rim for gravel aerodynamics. ZR1 DB hubs with 66 engagement points distinguish the SW equipment package from the S.

Who should put this wheelset on the shortlist?

Choose the SW when the wide XPLR platform fits your frame and the ZR1 hub specification matters to your build. Choose the S comparison when you want to revisit the budget before selecting accessories. Choose neither until the tire you intend to run has an approved size and enough clearance on your actual bike.

303 XPLR SW vs 303 XPLR S: buy the distinction you value

The S and SW share the 54 mm / 32 mm rim dimensions. The SW uses ZR1 DB hubs, while the S B1 uses 76/176. Settle tire and frame fit first, then compare the equipment and complete-build cost. For a weight comparison, request matching configuration figures: the checked S B1 product page does not provide a directly comparable weight.

Questions to answer before ordering

Can I use any 45 mm tubeless gravel tire?

No. Match the exact tire and size to the current XPLR guidance. Tubeless construction and nominal width alone do not establish compatibility with this platform.

Why does frame clearance need a second check?

Zipp warns that tires can grow wider on its XPLR rim. A tire allowed on your old wheels can therefore present a different clearance question here. Verify inflated width and the frame maker's required gap.

Is this the same wheel as the 303 SW?

No. The non-XPLR 303 SW has a 40 mm rim depth and 25 mm internal width. This XPLR SW uses the dedicated 54 mm / 32 mm gravel format; tire fitment cannot be carried across by name alone.

Does a complete wheelset include tires, rotors and a cassette?

Do not assume those accessories are bundled. This listing is for the front and rear wheels; request confirmation of package contents and separate tire, rotor, cassette or installation requirements before ordering.
