ROAD / CLIMBING-FIRST

Zipp 202 NSW: when the climb is the reason for the ride

The Zipp 202 NSW is a 700c carbon disc-brake wheelset with a 35 mm rim, 23 mm internal width and ZR1 SL hubs. It is the climbing-first option in this selection for a road build whose priorities begin with mountain routes and a shallower wheel profile rather than a deeper aero silhouette.

What you are buying: A complete front-and-rear wheelset. Select the rear freehub: Shimano / SRAM HG Road or SRAM XDR. Manufacturer model: WH-202-NSW-A1.

Fitment first: Road disc-brake application with ISO/TSS-compatible 28-32 mm tires in the checked specification. Confirm the bike, cassette and clearance. Official weight publications currently disagree, so the exact build weight must be verified before a weight-led purchase.

Hookless setup: 5.0 bar wheel ceiling (approximately 72.5 psi). A lower tire- or size-specific limit may apply; a maximum is not a riding recommendation. Check current Zipp tire compatibility.

Choose your wheel around the day you are planning

Some rides are planned around a destination. Others are planned around a climb. When the route you look forward to includes long ascents and the road on either side of them, your wheel choice deserves its own brief. Start with the whole build, the tires and the conditions you ride in, rather than assuming that the deepest wheel is the most complete upgrade.

Zipp's Biomimetic Laminate approach places different carbon-fiber properties where they serve the rim design, rather than treating every part of the rim as an identical job. A 35 mm profile, ZR1 SL hubs and Alpina Hyperlite spokes give the 202 NSW a distinct climbing-focused specification. Compare that complete package with the sensor-equipped 353 NSW or deeper 454 NSW to find the direction that suits your road bike.

Who should put this wheelset on the shortlist?

Choose the 202 NSW when a shallower climbing-focused road setup is the deliberate goal. Compare the 353 NSW when a wider internal platform and pressure sensing are priorities. Compare the 454 NSW when your main question is a deeper aero-road build. A personal buying brief is more useful than trying to crown one NSW wheel for every course.

Zipp 202 NSW vs 353 NSW: start with the climbing brief

The 202 uses a 35 mm rim and 23 mm internal width. The 353 uses a 35/40 mm Sawtooth profile, 25 mm internal width and an AXS Wheel Sensor. That gives you concrete trade-offs to consider. Because Zipp's 202 weight publications conflict, we will not turn those figures into a precise weight advantage over the 353.

Compare with Zipp 353 NSW or Zipp 454 NSW.

Questions to answer before ordering

How much does the Zipp 202 NSW weigh?

Zipp's current product page says 1,090 g; its support FAQ says 1,190 g including tubeless tape and valves. Those publications do not establish one guaranteed delivered figure. Ask us to verify the configuration before making weight the deciding factor.

Does the 202 NSW have a Sawtooth rim?

The 202 specification is a 35 mm rim. Do not transfer the 353 or 454 Sawtooth description to it simply because all three belong to the NSW range.

Is this a rim-brake climbing wheelset?

No. This WH-202-NSW-A1 listing is a Center Lock disc-brake wheelset. Owners of older rim-brake road bikes need a different wheel specification.

Is a lighter wheel always the faster choice?

Not as a universal buying rule. Your route, tires, fit and preferred handling all matter. We recommend beginning with the riding you are building for rather than choosing a wheel from one isolated number.

Choose the wheels with a real bike shop
