Description:
A reason to choose this exact build.
A great bike should earn its place every time you leave the garage. Fray Foundation Force starts with the decisions that last: the carbon frame, the fit, the tire clearance and a drivetrain intended for serious riding. You get the recognizable ENVE shape without needing the highest-priced wheel option at checkout.
That is not a compromise you have to apologize for. The Foundation-tier wheelset creates a more approachable entry to the Fray family, with SRAM Force AXS wireless 2× shifting and the same endurance-road frame. If you later find yourself chasing race results, wheels are among the components you can upgrade without changing the bicycle beneath you.
IDEAL RIDER

Riders who prioritize Fray fit, carbon chassis and functional drivetrain over the most expensive wheelset.

02 / THE BIKE IN DETAIL
See the shape. Understand the intention.
The silhouette tells one story. The integration, finishing touches and frame details tell the rest. These are official ENVE product views, while the configuration and geometry below explain what you are actually selecting.
Manufacturer imagery may represent alternate finishes or display components. Color and build options selected at purchase determine the delivered configuration.
Start with the platform, then refine
The Foundation Force shares Fray geometry, Cargo Bay storage and drivetrain family with Premium Force. The most meaningful published difference is its wheel tier. For an owner who values the frame and prefers to upgrade selectively, this is a sensible route into ENVE.

BEHIND THE ENGINEERING
A performance road bike with a hidden practical side.
The Fray Cargo Bay brings integrated downtube storage for repair essentials. Its geometry is optimized for roughly 31–35 mm tires, while maximum clearance depends on the drivetrain: ENVE lists 38 mm for 2× and 40 mm for 1×. That nuance matters before selecting a custom build.
Designed around your kind of riding.
The Fray answers a different question from the Melee: how much road performance can you retain while giving yourself more freedom on rough pavement, light dirt and long-distance routes? ENVE builds its all-road endurance platform around a fast road feel, a less race-specific fit and integrated downtube storage. Rather than requiring a new bike whenever the road deteriorates, the Fray invites you to vary tires, routes and pace.
The important specification is drivetrain-dependent clearance: ENVE lists up to 38 mm for 2× drivetrains and up to 40 mm for 1×. The T47 threaded bottom bracket and Cargo Bay give it practical character without making it a dedicated 50 mm gravel bike. The best Fray is the one with a sustainable contact-point position and enough tire for the roads you actually ride.
01
The terrain question
Is the ride mostly pavement with occasional hardpack?
02
The position question
Can you stay comfortably fast after four hours?
03
The 1×/2× decision
Do you prioritize close road gears or more tire room?
Fray vs. the other bikes you are considering
Every platform below has a legitimate reason to exist. Use this comparison to decide which design philosophy matches your real riding before comparing groupset prices.
| Bike platform | Primary character | Listed max tire | Distinctive approach | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ENVE Fray | Fast all-road endurance | 38 mm (2×); 40 mm (1×) | Cargo Bay, T47, ENVE fit and wheel options | Best match here if mixed pavement and light dirt share the calendar. |
| Cervélo Caledonia-5 | Fast endurance road | 36 mm | In-frame storage, fender mounts, race-bike feel | Great for endurance riders prioritizing road performance and mounts. |
| Pinarello DOGMA X | Premium endurance road | 35 mm | X-Stays comfort system and distinctive handling | Worth considering when an endurance-road feel and Italian design lead. |
| Bianchi Infinito PRO | Endurance road and rough pavement | 40 mm | 40 mm frame clearance; road-oriented build options | A compelling choice if you want Italian road character with comparable tire room. |
Comparison uses manufacturer-listed tire limits and editorial fit judgments, not independently measured speed results. Tire widths are nominal; actual mounted dimensions vary. Confirm the exact model year and build.

THE RIDE EXPERIENCE
Go farther without changing the reason you ride.
A responsive road-bike feel, broad fit options and hidden storage make the Fray a sophisticated choice for endurance events, broken tarmac and occasional light dirt. For sustained gravel riding on 40–50 mm tires, consider the MOG instead.

Full ENVE Fray geometry, every size.
The Fray has a taller endurance-oriented front end than ENVE’s Melee V2. A published 56 cm Fray measures 591 mm stack and 389 mm reach; use these numbers as a fit reference, not a stand-alone size recommendation. For mixed-surface comfort, tire width and pressure belong in the same fit conversation as bar height.
An endurance geometry does not guarantee comfort without proper bar position and tires; use the full stack/reach chart and set realistic tire pressure for your weight and surfaces.
Geometry measurements below are supplied by ENVE. Millimeters unless otherwise noted. The entire manufacturer geometry chart is retained on every configuration, including fork rake and tire-dependent trail.
