Stilema Tre is the product of a very special collaboration with the late Italian Architect and Designer Alessandro Mendini for the Cinelli Art Program. “I have often thought about my design as a system of signs, some simple, others complex, intertwining and infinitely developed on my objects, houses, furnishings and surfaces. Visual alphabets, signs, colors, images, decorative features, always similar but always different, in a continuous, endless movement, on large and small scales, in two or three dimensions. Research on the graphic effect of written vision, almost literary, where alphabets converge in the construction of true visual languages. Being languages, each of these expressive systems is a closed game in its own right, corresponding to precise rules. The stories and letters of these ‘expressive alphabets’ should not, however, be understood as a symbolic construct where the meanings are preordained. Quite the opposite: the signs contribute to create the inscription of the vision, and should be seen almost as pre-linguistic elements, still not constrained by the obligation to have a specific meaning.
